Typical prices
| Who builds it | UK | USA |
|---|---|---|
| You, with a website builder | £9 to £29 a month | $17 to $50 a month |
| Freelancer, about 5 pages | £500 to £3,000 | $1,500 to $8,000 |
| Agency | £3,000 to £6,000 | $6,000 to $35,000 or more |
| Hosting and care, per month | £30 to £150 | $150 to $500 |
What makes the price go up
- Number of pages. A page for each service and area costs more to build, and it's also what brings in searches.
- Who writes the text. Good text takes time. Check if it's included or if you have to write it yourself.
- Custom design. A design made from scratch costs more than a proven layout with your logo and colours.
- Booking or quote tools. Anything beyond a simple contact form adds work.
Costs people forget
- Hosting and the domain renewal, every year.
- Changes after launch, and what an hour of work costs.
- Tax added on top of the quoted price.
- A minimum contract, and whether it renews by itself.
- Who owns the website and domain if you leave.
